He founded Axonklinikken, Scandinavia's first ketamine-assisted psychotherapy clinic, and has personally administered over 1,000 treatments over ten years. In 2025 he received the Pioneer Award from the Nordic Psychedelic Awards.

Dr. Lowan H. Stewart is an American emergency physician and the founder of Axonklinikken, Scandinavia's first dedicated ketamine-assisted psychotherapy clinic. Based in Norway since 2013, he has spent over a decade building clinical programs for ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and personally administered more than 1,000 treatments. Stewart founded Axonklinikken in 2018. The clinic now operates from Oslo and Trondheim, with over 6,500 treatments delivered to date. In 2020 he co-founded the first public hospital ketamine unit in Norway at Sykehuset Østfold. He is a founding member of NORAAD (Norwegian Rapid-Acting Antidepressant Network) and co-founder of the Norwegian Association for Psychedelic Science. In 2025 he received the Pioneer Award from the Nordic Psychedelic Awards, chosen by a five-country jury. The same year, Norway became the first country with public reimbursement for ketamine treatment. Stewart holds an MD with Research Honors from the University of New Mexico and trained in emergency medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Psychedelic Studies.

Axonklinikken is Scandinavia's first dedicated ketamine-assisted psychotherapy clinic. Founded in 2018 by Dr. Lowan H. Stewart, the clinic operates from Oslo and Trondheim, Norway. Over 6,500 treatments have been delivered to more than 1,000 patients. In 2025, Norway became the first country worldwide with public reimbursement for ketamine treatment. The clinic collaborates with universities and hospitals on clinical research and works with a network of 18 trained partner psychologists.
